Bankruptcy
Lawyer
If you have already
decided that you want to file bankruptcy, then you probably
have no shortage of questions rushing around your mind right
now. One such question is very likely to be about whether or
not you need a bankruptcy lawyer. After all, should you be
spending more money on legal fees when the very reason that you
are in this situation is because you are experiencing financial
problems?
Well, the simple answer
is that YES, you do need a bankruptcy lawyer. In the first
instance, paying for a consultation with a lawyer will often
mean receiving honest advice about whether or not you even need
to file for bankruptcy and whether or not it is the best route
for you to take. Your bankruptcy lawyer might well be able to
advise you of other things you could do to avoid the drastic
step of bankruptcy.
However, if he or she
advises indeed that filing for either chapter 7 or chapter 13
bankruptcy is indeed the best way to go, then you will need
their services more than ever. Back in 2005, after extensive
lobbying by credit companies, Congress passed changes to the
banking code which made the laws around bankruptcy some of the
most complicated and notoriously difficult to stay on top of.
They’re complicated enough for the professionals, so you can
imagine that an individual with no legal qualifications would
struggle excessively.
For this reason, yes, you
do need a bankruptcy lawyer. I know that it seems to be a
particularly questionable decision to run up high legal bills
when you already have a lot on your plate with financial
problems, but it is a necessary expense. If you are successful,
then much of your debt could be completely wiped out anyway,
leaving you in a position where you can concentrate on paying
your legal fees.
